MARGARET PAPOUTSIS ... Osteopath and Nutritional Therapist
MARGARET PAPOUTSIS was the Gold Medal Graduate from the British School of Osteopathy in 1968, and was a Clinical Tutor there for several years. She has recently been appointed a Vice Patron of the college, which is the largest and longest-established osteopathic training centre in Europe. She is registered with:
- The General Osteopathic Council (GOsC) Reg. No. 2/959/F
- The British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine (BANT)
Reg. No. PAPO1O9867
Margaret Papoutsis has always favoured a holistic approach to health, and successfully integrates nutrition, exercise and other complementary therapies within her osteopathic treatment recommendations. Emphasis is always placed on providing the patient with the tools to maintain health and reduce the likelihood of any recurrence of their problem.
PERFORMANCE MEDICINE Her lifelong work with dancers and other performers has given Margaret unparalleled experience with the specific physical, dietary and emotional problems associated with these professions. She has held numerous posts with dance companies and colleges, including London School of Contemporary Dance, London Festival Ballet, English National Ballet and School, Royal Ballet School Teachers Training Course, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Royal Danish Ballet and School, Peter Schaufuss Ballet and School, Denmark. Alongside these she has had long-standing associations with musical theatre colleges and West End theatre productions. Consequently she is in great demand for consultations and lectures on aspects of performance medicine.
Singers, musicians and actors make up a substantial part of Margaret's practice, finding that their own particular needs are both understood and catered for.
Margaret is a recommended practitioner for Dance UK.
NUTRITIONAL THERAPY Having always incorporated nutritional advice into her osteopathic practice, she subsequently qualified (with Distinction) as a Nutritional and Dietary Therapist from Raworth College.
Nutritional Therapy adds an extra dimension to her management of many disorders and health concerns. Women's health, fertility, eating disorders, musculo-skeletal problems and digestive disturbances, to name but a few, can all have a nutritional aspect which is worth addressing on both treatment and prevention levels.
As well as her interest in the more usual areas of therapeutic dietetics, she has diplomas in Sports Nutrition and Herbal Therapy and is also a Foresight Preconceptual Care Practitioner.
However, Margaret was concerned that the supplements sometimes prescribed in Nutritional Therapy could often be beyond the reach of a significant number of patients, particularly students. There are many hundreds of supplements available, but the quality is variable, and not always related to price. It was in response to this situation that, in 2001, she formulated her own supplements – Bone Nutrition and Joint Nutrition. Since that time she has gone on to develop a range of natural skincare products which will be available in the near future.
